The  2nd National G. I Endoscopy FIAGES was held at Guwahati from 5th – 7th May 2017. More than 70 surgeons from different parts of the country registered for the course and altogether 100 delegates attended the programme.

The inaugural function was held on day one at Hotel Radisson Blu and for the first time in the history of IAGES.  President, Medical Council of India Dr. Jayashree Mehta and Secretary, MCI Dr. Reena Nayyar attended the inaugural ceremony and addressed the gathering as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour Dr. U. C. Sharma the Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, apart from President IAGES Dr. Zameer Pasha and Immediate Past President Dr. Ramesh Agarwalla also addressed the delegates.

Whereas the didactic sessions were held on the 5th of May at Hotel Radisson Blu the practical’s were held on the 6th and 7th of May at the auditorium of Swagat Super Speciality Surgical Institute, Maligaon.

The senior surgeon members who are doing therapeutic endoscopy were evaluated on 7th may 2017 by a panel of experts IAGES members. Sugeons from Delhi, Sikkhim, Kolkata, Bangalore, Orissa ,West Bengal, Pune, Tamilnadu, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya attended the programme to obtain fellowship. Apart from Prof. Subhash Khanna the other faculty included Dr. B. Krishna Rau, Dr. Easwaramoorthy, Dr. Zameer Pasha (President IAGES), Dr. Sayan Dev Dasgupta, Dr. K. Gobindraj, Dr. Vipul Roy Rathod, Dr. Satish Midha, Dr. Amitava Goswami, Dr.  Navaneetha Krishnan.  and Dr. Siddhartha Phukan.

Apart from diagnostic endoscopy and colonoscopy the other procedures that were demonstrated included ERCP, endoscopic procedures for removal of foreign body, endoscopy for internal bleeding and also endoscopic Intragastic balloon.

The new procedure of Spyglass for removal of difficult stones from biliary tree demonstrated.

“Lapguru” took the initiative of web telecasting Live the programme on its portals.

Dr. Subhash Khanna, President elect IAGES and also the Organising Chairman while addressing the delegate made a special mention of the efforts of Prof. B. Krishna Rau and Dr. Easrawamoorthy and mentioned that such a course shall change the way surgeons do endoscopic procedures and endoscopy soon shall be an integral part of surgical curriculum. The formal vote of thanks was offered by Dr Dipak Sarmah, Org. Secretary. The course ended on the 7th May with a valedictory function and certification ceremony.
