A landmark achievement in surgical innovation and telerobotics was accomplished in Eastern India as our team at Swagat Super Speciality Hospital successfully performed what is believed to be the region’s first office-based remote robotic surgery.

The procedure was conducted between our Shantipur facility and Swagat Super Speciality Hospital, located approximately 2 kilometres apart. While the patient-side robotic system was stationed at Maligaon, I remotely performed the surgery from Shantipur using the indigenously developed “MantraSna” robotic console by SS Innovations.

The compact, chair-based workstation—equipped with advanced augmented reality visualisation and intuitive controls—transformed a regular office environment into a fully functional remote surgical cockpit.

What Made This Achievement Unique
No requirement for a full-sized robotic console at both locations
Seamless remote surgical execution with minimal latency
Successful integration of telerobotics into a practical clinical setting

The surgery was completed successfully through close coordination between the on-site surgical team, anaesthesia team, scrub nurses, technicians, and the engineering experts from SS Innovations. The patient is recovering well.

This achievement represents an important step forward in the evolution of connected surgical care, telerobotics, and accessibility in advanced healthcare. It reinforces the belief that distance need no longer be a barrier to delivering high-quality surgical expertise.

I extend my sincere gratitude to the entire Swagat team, including Prof. Swagata Khanna, Dr. Pranab Kr. Das, Dr. Kanineeka Das, our dedicated scrub nurses and technicians, and the SS Innovations engineering team led by Mr. Prashant Kumar, whose collective efforts made this milestone possible.
